Football coach course prices in Spain: how to compare options

Last reviewed: 2026-06-08

A football coaching course in Spain costs between €200 and €600 via the federation pathway (UEFA C) and €800-€1,800 via the academic pathway (Sports Technician Level 1). Higher levels: UEFA B between €400 and €1,200 (federation), UEFA A between €2,000 and €4,500, and UEFA Pro reaches €8,000-€12,000 in recent RFEF calls. The price depends on the regional federation, centre and format.

Price table by level and pathway

There is no single price. The federation pathway (UEFA courses run by regional federations) is usually cheaper than the academic pathway (Sports Technician delivered by Ministry-authorised centres). Both lead to different qualifications with different recognition. The ranges below are based on 2024-25 / 2025-26 calls and are indicative; always check the current call before enrolling.

These ranges reflect what federations and authorised centres publish in recent calls. They are indicative: each specific call may vary.

LevelFederation pathway (UEFA)Academic pathway (TD)
UEFA C (federation only)€200 – 600
UEFA B / TD Level 1€400 – 1,200€800 – 1,800
UEFA A / TD Nivel 2€2,000 – 4,500€3,500 – 6,500
UEFA Pro / TD Superior€8,000 – 12,000€3,500 – 6,500

Why prices vary so much

The same level can cost €250 at one federation and €1,500 at a private centre. The differences come down to what each offer includes:

  • Regional federation: Each autonomous community sets its own fees. RFFM (Madrid), FCF (Catalonia) and RFAF (Andalusia) charge differently for the same UEFA C course. Always check with your federation.
  • Training centre: CENAFE, ACADEF, ANEF and public IES centres with sports vocational training deliver the academic pathway (Sports Technician). Their prices include teaching, materials, online platform and placement management, which is why they are higher than federation fees.
  • Format: An intensive 2-month in-person course may cost more than one spread over 8 months, or vice versa if accommodation is included.
  • Services included: Kit, teaching materials, exam fees, title issuance and licence renewal may be bundled in the price or charged separately.

What is and isn't included in the price

The most common mistake is comparing tuition figures alone. Two courses at the same price can have very different real costs:

  • Usually included: Teaching hours, online platform access (if blended), basic study materials and assessment.
  • Sometimes included, sometimes not: Exam fees, title or licence issuance, sports kit, annual federation insurance (~€30-80) and placement insurance.
  • Almost never included: Travel to the venue, accommodation (for intensive courses away from home), licence renewal (every 3 years + mandatory 15 h Continuing Education Certificate) and the opportunity cost if the course requires attendance during working hours.

Before paying, ask the centre for a breakdown of the total cost including every item. If they cannot provide one clearly, treat it as a warning sign.

Grants, financial aid and payment plans

There are several options to reduce the cost, especially on the academic pathway:

  • MEC grant (Ministry of Education): Sports Technician courses are official sports education, so you can apply for the Ministry's general grant. It covers from €300 (basic) to €1,700 based on family income. Usual deadline: August-October each year.
  • Federation grants: Some regional federations (like FFCV in Valencia) offer specific aid for coaching course students. Check with your federation for open calls.
  • AFE grants: Members of the Spanish Footballers' Association can apply for training grants redeemable at authorised centres.
  • Payment plans: Centres like CENAFE and FDYE offer interest-free financing spread over the course duration. FDYE, for example, offers 12 instalments of €114/month for levels 1 and 2.

Even on the federation pathway, some federations allow splitting payment into 2-3 instalments. Always ask before assuming it is a single payment.

How to compare two courses before paying

Use this checklist before enrolling:

  • What qualification does it award? UEFA licence (federation) or Sports Technician (academic). They are not the same. Compare both pathways.
  • Who organises it? Regional federation, Ministry-authorised centre or private entity. If private, ask to see the official authorisation.
  • What can I coach afterwards? Confirm the qualification covers the competition you want. Check what each licence allows.
  • What is the total cost? Tuition + fees + exams + title issuance + materials + travel.
  • Does it include placements? How many hours, at which clubs, who manages them?
  • What is the schedule? In-person, blended, intensive, weekends. Confirm it fits your work and life.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the UEFA C coaching course cost?

Via the federation pathway, the UEFA C course costs between €200 and €600 depending on the regional federation. Some like Asturias charge around €325, while others exceed €500. Via the academic pathway (Sports Technician Level 1) at centres like CENAFE or ANEF, the price rises to €800-1,800.

Can I do the coaching course for free with a grant?

If you take the academic pathway (Sports Technician) at a public authorised centre, yes. As official sports education, you can apply for the MEC grant from the Ministry of Education. The amount depends on family income (typically €300-€1,700) and does not cover private centres. Some regional federations and the Spanish Footballers' Association also offer specific training grants.

Why does a UEFA course cost differently by federation?

While minimum content is set by UEFA, each regional federation manages its own operational costs, venues, teaching staff and infrastructure. This creates differences in tuition fees. Also, some federations include diploma issuance in the price while others charge it separately as an additional item.

What documents should I check before paying?

Demand the official call with the exact name of the title or licence awarded. Check who organises the course, entry requirements, the full schedule of in-person classes, whether licence issuance is included, and the cancellation or refund terms for the tuition fee.

Can I pay for the course in instalments?

Yes, most academic pathway centres offer interest-free financing. CENAFE spreads payments across the course duration; FDYE offers 12 instalments of €114/month. On the federation pathway, some federations allow splitting the fee into 2-3 payments. Always ask before assuming it is a one-off charge.

What happens if I fail or drop out of the coaching course?

It depends on the centre and the call. If you fail, you can usually retake the assessment in the next call by paying a re-examination fee. If you drop out, most centres do not refund the tuition. If you had a trainee coaching licence, it is cancelled when you leave the course. Review the cancellation terms before enrolling.
