Football coach course in La Rioja

In La Rioja, coaching courses are run by the Federación Riojana de Fútbol (FRF), based in Logroño (Avenida de Zaragoza, 12) with its own coaching school. The whole 2026/27 offer runs in Logroño, and enrolment goes through academia.rfef.es — note that the call lives on that platform: the federation website can take weeks to publish its course-offer news.

Minimum qualification per division according to FRF Circular no. 16 («Qualifications/Diplomas by Modality/Division», 2026/27 season, July 2026), which details everything down to women's and grassroots football. The quick rule: UEFA B covers territorial senior football (Regional Preferente) and all regional and national youth leagues; UEFA C is enough from women's youth and cadete downwards; and UEFA A only appears when jumping to national tiers (Tercera Federación and División de Honor Juvenil), where the licence is processed by the RFEF.

The obligation reaches every team registered with the FRF (Circular 16 and article 75.1 of the General Regulations, updated March 2026), with a maximum of two weeks to fill a coaching vacancy during the season. Non-compliance is referred to the federation disciplinary bodies, with no published fine in the circular. The fitness coach must hold a CAFD degree plus at least UEFA C.

If you want an academic qualification with access to the Ministry grant, consider the Sports Technician: longer and more expensive, but with an official title. The academic Sports Technician in Football route runs at a single centre in La Rioja: IES La Laboral in Lardero, which teaches both the intermediate and the higher level. Admission opens every year: intermediate-level applications in mid-September (no admission fee, 24 places per class) and the physical entry tests for the higher level in early September — check the current calendar on the Government of La Rioja official procedure. As for grants, La Rioja offers something almost no other region does: a yearly Government line of grants for training sports coaches, referees and managers (€62,000 in the 2026 edition), for people registered as residents in La Rioja taking sports qualifications. The call opens in spring (the 2026 window ran from 14/04 to 13/05) and subsidises the previous year's expenses, so a course taken this season can apply to the next edition — check the terms to confirm your specific course qualifies.
