How to become a football analyst in Spain: licence, courses and postgraduate programmes

Last reviewed: 2026-10-06

There is no official qualification for football analysts in Spain: the RFEF has its own licence, the "TA", and the training available is unofficial federation courses and universities' own degrees.

  • Licence: "TA", Técnico/a Analista (analyst), art. 104.2.j of the 2025/26 Competition Regulations.
  • Official qualification: none; federation courses are unofficial training (RD 1363/2007).
  • Federation courses 2026/27: Aragón at €250 and the Balearic Islands at €300.
  • RFEF CSU: announced for 2026/27, no call published yet.

The TA licence: the analyst exists in the RFEF regulations

The RFEF Competition Regulations (Circular no. 34, 2025/26 season) list among the football licences the "TA": Técnico/a Analista (analyst), in article 104.2.j. In futsal the code is "TAS" and in beach football "TAPL".

The text attaches no qualification or diploma to the "TA". Other licences in the same article differ: the fitness coach licence ("PF") does require an academic and federation qualification, and the sporting director licence ("DD") asks for a contract and a federation diploma. These are 2025/26 season data.

A federation licence and a qualification are different things: for analysts there is a "TA" licence but no official title. If you want to coach rather than analyse, the route is a different one, covered in the guide to what you can coach with UEFA C, B, A and Pro.

No official analyst title: what unofficial training means

Analyst courses run by regional federations do not lead to an official title. The eighth additional provision of Real Decreto 1363/2007 governs sports training that does not lead to official titles: it cannot use the names of official certificates, cycles, degrees or titles, or others that could mislead, and its advertising must state prominently that the studies and diplomas are unofficial.

The FFCV (the Valencian Community federation) reflects this in the legal notice of its spring 2026 analyst course: the studies taught and the diplomas or certificates issued have no official status.

In practice there are three kinds of offer: courses run by regional federations, university programmes that are the university's own degrees (títulos propios), and courses from private platforms. None equals an official title, and the federation listings do not show that any course grants the "TA" licence.

Federation analyst courses in 2026/27: Aragón, the Balearic Islands and the FFCV

La Academia RFEF lists two federation analyst courses for the 2026/27 season: the one from the Real Federación Aragonesa de Fútbol and the one from the Federació de Futbol de les Illes Balears. Registration deadlines are in each official listing. The FFCV has run two editions in 2026.

According to its listing, the Aragón course starts with simple tools and moves on to more complex ones: Wyscout, NacSport, Media Coach and Power BI. Each regional federation's wider offer is covered in the guides to Aragón, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community.

The 2026 listings do not publish entry requirements, total hours or the diploma awarded: ask the federation before you pay. If your regional federation is not listed here, check its offer in the federations directory.

In spring 2026 the FFCV ran a 100% online Curso de Analista de Fútbol by videoconference, on Mondays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, with 30 places that sold out. The 2024 edition announced 60 teaching hours; the 2026 editions do not state total hours.

The RFEF CSU in Applied Football Analysis: announced, no call yet

On 2 September 2026 the RFEF announced that in the 2026/27 academic year it will launch the I CSU en Análisis Aplicado al Fútbol (CSU: Curso Superior Universitario), alongside a CSU in Sport Psychology Applied to Football.

The announcement gives no price, credits, university, requirements or deadlines, and the course does not yet appear in the La Academia RFEF search tool.

The RFEF and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) previously ran two tactical analysis and scouting programmes. They are a reference, not a preview of what the new one will be:

Both were own degrees (títulos propios) of the URJC and are past editions. The 2021-22 higher course required a federation coaching diploma (Básico or UEFA B, Avanzado or UEFA A, or Profesional or UEFA PRO) or a graduate in sport sciences (CAFD) holding a federation diploma, although the Academic Committee could admit profiles linked to football. The 2019-20 master's required a level II coaching diploma, Avanzado or UEFA A at a minimum. These are the requirements of those editions, not of the future one.

University master's and postgraduate programmes in analysis

Outside the federations there are master's and postgraduate programmes in data analysis and tactical analysis. These are three: the two from Universidad Europea are own degrees (títulos propios) and the Barça Innovation Hub one is issued by the Hub itself.

Máster en Sports Analytics (Universidad Europea, Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid)Own degree (título propio); in English; Alcobendas, with placements at Real Madrid C.F.60 ECTS, 9 monthsOctober 2026Not published

Executive Postgraduate in Tactical Analysis and Scouting in Professional Football (Barça Innovation Hub)Barça Innovation Hub qualification; online with a final in-person session at FC Barcelona; English and Spanish12 months; ECTS not specifiedFebruary and October (year not stated)On request

The Universidad Europea master's admits applicants with a university degree, six months of related professional experience or related higher vocational training (FP superior) placements, and it is a data profile rather than a video one. The data postgraduate admits those with a degree, with accredited professional experience or with higher vocational training plus experience, and lists among its tools Tableau, Power BI, Wyscout, StatsBomb, Catapult, Kitman Labs, Hudl IQ and SkillCorner.

The Barça Innovation Hub programme is the closest to tactical analysis and scouting, but its listing does not state the ECTS credits or whether the title is official. Before enrolling in any of them, confirm the price, the language and the type of title in writing.

Free football analyst courses

Federation courses are paid: €250 for Aragón and €300 for the Balearic Islands.

One free option is private and in English: Applied Football Analytics, from the Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea on Coursera. Enrolment is free, the level is beginner, it lasts two weeks at 10 hours a week and has four modules: performance analysis, scouting and player valuation, club strategy and decision-making, and analytics in the media.

To see how data is used in a club, the article on how football clubs measure data is a good complement, and the one on AI tools for coaches covers the artificial intelligence side.

What an analyst course teaches

The content comes from each course's listing. The Balearic course lists as objectives the analyst's role, recording with cameras and drones, video analysis software, the opponent report, analysis of one's own team and the post-match, set pieces, matchday duties, and data analytics and artificial intelligence applied to football.

The FFCV spring listing cites as tools HUDL SportsCode, NacSport, LongoMatch, VEO, BEPRO, Wyscout, Opta and MediaCoach, and as content metrics (xG), phases of play and set pieces. Aragón names Wyscout, NacSport, Media Coach and Power BI. That is what the programmes of those courses say, not what a club requires to hire someone.

The FFCV autumn course is titled "Video & Datos", and both the Balearic course and the Barça Innovation Hub postgraduate combine analysis and scouting in the name; the Universidad Europea programmes are about data. For anyone already on the bench in youth football, the Balearic syllabus includes the opponent report, analysis of one's own team and set pieces.

Frequently asked questions

How do I become a football analyst if I am starting from scratch?

The RFEF has the "TA" (Técnico/a Analista) licence and its regulations attach no qualification to it. The training available is unofficial federation courses, such as those in Aragón (€250) and the Balearic Islands (€300) for 2026/27, and universities' own degrees. The listings do not publish entry requirements.

Do I need to be a qualified coach or hold UEFA B to be an analyst?

The 2025/26 Competition Regulations attach no qualification to the "TA" licence, and the Aragón, Balearic and FFCV listings publish no entry requirements. The 2021-22 RFEF and URJC higher course asked for a federation coaching diploma (or being a sport sciences graduate, CAFD, with a federation diploma), but it is a past and different programme.

What is the difference between a tactical, video and data analyst?

The offer shows it this way: federation courses mix video and data (the FFCV autumn course is called Video & Datos) and combine analysis and scouting (the Balearic one), while the Universidad Europea programmes are about data analytics, with tools such as Power BI or StatsBomb.

Are there football analyst courses from the RFEF or the federations?

Yes, from regional federations and through La Academia RFEF. For 2026/27, La Academia RFEF lists Aragón (IV Curso Analista, €250) and the Balearic Islands (€300), plus the FFCV autumn edition under way. The RFEF has announced an I CSU en Análisis Aplicado al Fútbol for 2026/27, with no call yet.

Are there free football analyst courses?

Federation courses are paid: €250 for Aragón and €300 for the Balearic Islands. There is an English-language Coursera course, Applied Football Analytics, from the Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea, with free enrolment, beginner level and a two-week duration.

Does an analyst course give an official qualification?

No. Under the eighth additional provision of RD 1363/2007, this kind of training does not lead to official titles and its advertising must say so. The listings do not state which diploma or certificate is awarded, and they do not say the course grants the "TA" licence.

Is there an RFEF university course for analysts?

Announced, not called. The RFEF said on 2 September 2026 that the I CSU en Análisis Aplicado al Fútbol will run in the 2026/27 academic year, but no price, credits, requirements or deadlines have been published. Earlier there was a master's (2019-20) and a higher course (2021-22) with the URJC.
