Football coach course in the Balearic Islands

The FFIB (Federació de Futbol de les Illes Balears) is the archipelago's single regional federation: unlike the Canary Islands, which split management across three island federations, the FFIB covers Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera with no sub-federations. It publishes its content in Catalan and Spanish.

The FFIB processes all its calls through academia.rfef.es, the RFEF national platform: you pick your federation, find your course by level and reserve a seat online. Typical documents include ID, prior education (Spanish ESO or equivalent for UEFA C; a valid UEFA C plus experience for UEFA B), medical certificate, photo and proof of payment.

Pre-registration windows do not line up across levels: UEFA B opens earliest, from 13 April 2026; UEFA C from 20 May; and closing dates stagger between late August and 11 October depending on the specific call. Most FFIB calls are concentrated in Palma: the five UEFA C sittings, two of the four UEFA B sittings, both UEFA A calls and every specialty course (futsal, goalkeeping, coordinator, National Expert, F7/8 specialist). If you live in Mallorca, this means no extra travel.

If you live in Menorca, Ibiza or Formentera, UEFA C rotates with one call in Es Mercadal (Menorca) and another in Eivissa, and UEFA B with one call in each of those two islands. For UEFA A and the rest of the specialty courses there is no island alternative: you need to travel to Palma. Confirm the exact venue on each call's listing before enrolling, since it can vary between editions.

Minimum qualification under Article 23 of the FFIB Coaching Area Regulations (March 2026 edition), the most detailed of the federations we have verified. The quick rule: UEFA B covers territorial senior football (except División de Honor Amateur), all youth football and the Liga Autonómica Femenina; UEFA C reaches from cadete down to prebenjamín plus the Liga Regional Femenina; and UEFA A is required in Tercera RFEF, División de Honor Juvenil, 2ª RFEF Femenina and, from 2026/27, also in the División de Honor Amateur.

The Balearic particularity is the tightening calendar: the top territorial cadete division starts requiring UEFA B (or the Fútbol 11 Specialist diploma) in 2026/27, the top infantil in 2027/28 and the top alevín in 2028/29 (with the Fútbol 7/8 Specialist as an alternative) — in every case, being enrolled in the corresponding course also counts. The FFIB additionally recognises the UEFA D Grassroots Leader (head coach in prebenjamín, assistant in benjamín) and two own diplomas, Fútbol 7/8 Specialist and Fútbol 11 Specialist, which qualify as head coach in their categories and for the specialist coordinator licence.

If you want an academic qualification with MEC grant access (at public centres), consider the Sports Technician: longer and more expensive than the federation route, but it grants an official Ministry title.
